NHS Community Screening, Health Checks & Diagnostics

NHS health checks for people with learning disabilities (LD) from 14 years plus or severe mental illness (SMI) from 18 years onwards – to meet individual needs and ensure any health issues are picked up early.
NHS health checks (40 to 74 years) These check-ups can spot early signs of health problems like heart disease, stroke, or diabetes. We check your blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, and ask about your lifestyle to help keep you well. During the appointment, we provide advice on how to lose weight, access to stop smoking services and exercise.
AI Skin Check (18 years plus): We use a NHS-approved AI-assisted tool, supported by a (human) skin specialist (dermatologist) to check your skin safely and quickly. This works for all skin tones and helps spot changes, including cancer, early.
Lung Function Test age (Spirometry): A simple test to check how well your lungs are working by measuring how much air you can exhale in one breath.
Asthma or chronic lung disease: We offer advice and reviews to help manage your symptoms.
Type 2 Diabetes Support (18–39 years)  you may be invited for an extra-long appointment to talk through your care. We will check your blood sugar, weight, and offer advice about planning for the future, including pregnancy, lifestyle, and support in the community.

    NHS Vaccinations & Immunisation

Flu vaccinations (2–3-year-olds): A free and safe flu jab for your children aged 2-3. They can have a quick, pain-free nose spray, or an injection that doesn't have gelatine.

Getting your child vaccinated helps stop them from catching the flu and spreading it to older people who are more at risk of getting very ill.

If your child is registered with a Barking & Dagenham GP you can book via the following link: www.togetherfirst.co.uk/booking-flu/

MMR Vaccines for Children (aged 0 – 5 years): Protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. These free, safe and effective vaccines are offered before school age. Gelatine-free/halal vaccines also available on request.

If your child is registered with a Barking & Dagenham GP you can book via the following link: www.togetherfirst.co.uk/booking-measles/

Shingles and Pneumococcal vaccines (over 65 year olds)
The pneumonia jab helps protect you from serious illnesses like chest infections, infections around your brain (meningitis), and blood poisoning, which can be very dangerous as you get older and your body finds it harder to fight off germs. Without it, you're at much higher risk of getting seriously ill or needing hospital care.
The shingles vaccine stops you from getting that painful rash with blisters, or makes it much milder if you do catch it. It also helps prevent the long-lasting pain some people get afterwards. If you don't have the shingles jab, you're more likely to get it and suffer from severe, ongoing pain.
